The Swedish Online Gambling Trade Association (BOS) has sent a letter to the government, pleading with them to remove temporary limitations on internet casinos, including deposit caps, sooner than originally scheduled.
The association contends that since the government has declared the removal of all pandemic-related general restrictions on September 29th, internet casino regulations should also be lifted on the same date, rather than the initially planned November 14th.
These limitations were initially put in place in July 2020, and despite an initial plan to remove them at the end of the year, they have been extended multiple times.
They include a deposit cap of SEK 5,000 and time limits on playing slot machines and casino games with licensed operators.
In the letter, BOS Secretary General Gustav Hoffstedt stated: “The government’s announcement on September 7th that most general restrictions will be lifted on September 29th this year undoubtedly demonstrates the government’s resolve to restore Sweden to normalcy.”
The Swedish Public Health Agency has withdrawn its recommendation to work remotely, a key factor in the temporary regulations on gaming accountability. Individuals have indicated that increased time spent at home may contribute to a rise in issues related to online casino gaming.
Hofstede also mentioned that the government-owned land-based casino, Casino Cosmopol, resumed operations on July 7th, without the same limitations imposed on online casinos.
