Andy Wright has resigned from his position as Senior Vice President of Trading at FanDuel, after a two-year stint with the organization.
Wright joined FanDuel in May 2022 from KingMakers, where he served as Head of Trading.
During his time at FanDuel, the company introduced its sports betting product in January 2023. FanDuel became the first betting operator to establish a retail sportsbook within an NFL stadium, at what was previously known as FedEx Field in Maryland.
FanDuel has since expanded across the United States, launching its online casino in November 2023. Furthermore, during Wright’s tenure, FBG acquired the US operations of PointsBet for $225 million (£179.2 million/€208.5 million).
Wright expressed his “deep appreciation” for his time at FanDuel, contributing to the development of its betting and gaming division.
“It’s time to rejuvenate, spend more time with family, and then seek out new opportunities,” Wright stated.
“Best wishes to the FanDuel Betting and Gaming team. I’ll be rooting for you from a distance!”
The PointsBet agreement has accelerated FanDuel’s expansion. Following the acquisition of PointsBet’s US operations, FanDuel finalized the acquisition last week and went live in New Jersey.
FanDuels sports betting service is now accessible in twenty American states, having previously been operated by PointsBet before the agreement was finalized. FBG stated that its launch in New Jersey means its sports wagering platform encompasses about ninety-five percent of the US online market.
PointsBet users in New Jersey will be automatically transferred to FanDuels sports betting platform, including their user names, passwords, and other account details.
New Jersey is a particularly significant market for FanDuel, as the state has legalized online gambling establishments. This marks FanDuels fourth state launch in the state, following launches in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
FanDuels acquisition of PointsBet was finalized after it initially announced a one hundred and fifty million dollar acquisition deal. DraftKings increased the price with a one hundred and ninety-five million dollar offer, but FanDuel ultimately completed the transaction in June of 2023.
