The Australian media watchdog is taking action against unlawful international gambling and partner marketing websites operating within its borders. They are requesting that internet providers restrict connections to these platforms, many of which are violating the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. This restriction tactic has already demonstrated success, with more than 568 sites removed since 2019. Recent violators include names like Casino Moons, Winnerama, Extra Vegas, and Win Paradise. The watchdog approximates that since initiating their efforts in 2017, over 170 illicit gambling operations have departed the Australian market. They strongly suggest consumers utilize only authorized wagering services and refer to the agency’s registry to confirm their legitimacy. In a recent development, the watchdog issued a formal caution to Proxous Advanced Solutions, a provider connected to these prohibited activities.
Australias media regulator has formally cautioned software developer Proxous, alleging the firm knowingly enabled 13 unlawful internet casinos to utilize its platform. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) claims these gambling sites, all employing Proxous’ “RealTime Gaming” software, illicitly provided services to Australians.
This move signifies the first instance where the ACMA has targeted a software supplier, instead of the casinos directly, for “aiding and abetting illegal wagering.”
