The UKs chosen National Lottery operator from 2024, Allwyn, has stated its dismay over recent legal obstacles postponing the transfer. This comes after the High Court’s ruling to uphold a pause on the proceedings, triggered by a lawsuit from Camelot, the incumbent operator.
Allwyn UK’s Chair, Justin King, conveyed his dissatisfaction, stressing the possible detriment these hold-ups present to the charities supported by the National Lottery. The Gambling Commission, tasked with granting the license, reiterated these worries, underscoring the potential monetary consequences.
The matter now rests on an appeals hearing set for September, where Camelot and IGT, the technology supplier, will put forward their arguments. Allwyn maintains optimism that the shift will continue as intended, enabling them to execute their plans for the National Lottery’s future.
We are strongly encouraging them to either guarantee the safeguarding of worthy initiatives within their updated strategy or to respectfully acknowledge Justice O’Farrell’s judgment – it benefits both the National Lottery and its participants. Such action would conclude the present impasse and empower the Gambling Commission to at last bestow the fourth permit upon Allwyn.
